Sleep Apnea

You may not be aware that many dentists treat sleep apnea. Many adults in the United States suffer from sleep apnea and are desperate to seek help from a sleep professional. Many times, such treatment can be covered by medical insurance if an actual sleep study has been done and the patient receives an official diagnosis.

Severe sleep apnea is treated with a CPAP mask that is strapped onto the patient’s face to provide forced oxygen into the lungs for adequate breathing during sleep. Many patients do not tolerate such masks very well and seek another form of treatment. Dental sleep apnea devices can often serve these patients quite well by positioning their jaw forward while sleeping, resulting in a more open airway. These dental sleep apnea devices come in many different forms. If you are struggling with sleep apnea and a CPAP machine does not work for you, you may be a candidate for such a device.
